They all seem to have settled in with each other,the little black one still seems to either be full of more miscief or just a bit of a bully but the pecking seems to have stopped...it just waits for one of them to lay down and then 'accidentally' stands on it

The little Legbar/Buff can't open an eye.Don't know if it's from being pecked or something else but I have some boiled water cooling down so I can give it a little wipe.Anything else I could try?

Just soak it with warm water, it's because they developed too quickly I think, I've had it few times... it opens eventually.

I'm pleased to say that now they've all fluffed up they're all as cute as each other

So 4 chicks isn't a bad result , it could have been 6 by the sounds of it but they could have been weak chicks

When are you going to do the next lot? I'm struggling to keep up

Huge Thankyou Matthew,without you we wouldn't have any.
I broke into the two remaining eggs last night.One was fully formed but the other was still tiny.I had my concerns about that one when I candled it.

I 'think' if we do anymore this year it will be if and when one of the girls goes broody.

Just wanted to post a few pics of the chicks...coming up for four weeks old.
none are great,they haven't quite learnt the art of standing still.

Anyone wanting to hazard a guess at sexes,feel free.We're pretty sure the two black ones are boys,although one we're not sure...their tails seem 'cockish'.The Buff and white one we're seriously hoping are girls.
The yellow one is Cream Legbar mummy and Buff Orpington daddy.

I'll join you on the Norty step Di I've "borrowed" a broody from Shellingtons ................. well she already had 2 broodies sitting on eggs and they couldn't be doing with any more and they haven't the space and ..... and ..... and .... well she's now sitting on 7 Minorca x Jersey Giant eggs here in my broody coop and run. I don't know if the eggs are fertile as I haven't actually witnessed Jerry having his wicked way with Alice but she's had some ruffled bum feathers at times lately Should be an "interesting" outcome if any hatch

I'm trying so hard not to worry this time but I'll be going to check on her in a bit...I've been asked to help on a school trip tomorrow...that means not giving her her lunchtime check
She was a little tricky to settle in the broody coop...initially we weren't going to bother but she kept nicking all the others eggs.She'd been sat for about five days on dud eggs so we took our chance with the Maran eggs...typically I had nearly two hours persuading her onto them...she didn't seem too happy that I'd dared swap them
