hi, dust inside the house before you put the bedding in,as extra measure,i wage a war on mites of anykind!!!lol think im right in saying its a very fine particle powder , and the particles penetrate the hard shell of the mites and kills them..i do mine everytime i clean them out..after having a serious case of scaly leg mite on one of my cockerals..totally mad on growing veg and keeping bantams!!!!

the company would have responded that it had been treated as they apply enough treatment to preserve the wood for a season or two. you are applying creocote not to preserve the wood, but to make the coop inhospitable to mite - major difference.
so both answers are right. also remember that it can take upto a week to get he creocote smell out of the wood before yo uput the birds in so if time is pushing, i would suggest put th birds in and then spray with mite shield or similar during the summer

Thanks for that.We are all very excited me more than the children!! we have been talking chicken for the last 2 weeks. If i coat it tomorrow will it be okay for next Saturday?we have booked on a beginners course at pimlotts poultry on March 20th and will be buying the chickens from them.We are going for miss pepperpot (the one that eglu stock)because it's a hybrid and supposed to be easy for beginners and lay up to 300 eggs per week. The coop will house up to 10 but i will probably get 4 only.I might end up giving in to pleas from children next week and get more,we will have to wait and see.goddess
