moult?

not sure if scarlet is having her first moult? the feathers she was loosing off her breast has now progressed to wings and neck, she looks right tatty she's stopped laying having more or less laid everyday since last october even in the cold weather, apart from this she's in fine fettle,striding around bossing the other girls about, she'll be one year old in april/may time. What could it be do you think?

It sounds like moulting, but it's a slightly strange time to do it, right at the beginning of Spring. I would expect her to carry on for a bit longer, and then moult in the summer. Still, maybe French birds are different!

Richmond - it certainly is a strange time to moult, then again its been a strange winter. I have had to bring in some of my millefleur as they are dropping feathers and the thoughts of a little bantam like them out in -7 at night makes me shudder!

she laid an egg yesterday, a huge one! (not the fishy one that I've just fed to the dog!! that was laid on the 3rd march according to my pencil)in fact I've a hunch that it's Scarlet's eggs that have the odd smell, might she have an infection and would that make the egg smell? praps a bit far fetched! sorry still no photo, camera not charged up, still not sure how to put piccies on forum, blah blah...
