Poultry spice, how long to keep feeding

Hi All

I have got some poultry spice and I've been mixing some oats, layers mash/pellets in warm water each morning for them with a v.little of cod liver oil (once a week).

I've been putting in the smallest of amounts of poultry spice, it said a teaspoon between 10 birds, I've ben giving them 1/4 of a teaspoon between 5 birds in two bowls

How long do I feed them poultry spice, I've got the two ex batts, once is laying nearly everyday and is slowl growing feathers back, but slowly.

I use it most of the time in the cold weather - like you I give it in mash (layers coarse meal and yoghurt with PS) each morning. I've also tried Net-tek Mineral powder for a change - smells lovely and spicy! I give a glug of cod liver oil about 3 times a week in winter as there's so little sunlight. Oh yes I put half a teaspoon of garlic powder as well about 3 times a week. I cut back on Poultry Spice in the spring and summer unless someone is moulting or unwell. Occasionally use Avipro-plus too especially if I have a new intake of ex-batts.

can you feed them flavored yogurts? or does it have to be plain. We use the easiyo yogurt maker and my OH made cherry but isnt eating it, so I was thinking since it was made using the normal stuff just with a flavoring in perhaps they could have it....??

Thanks suechooks, I wasnt usre if to keep feeding them the spice, but will continue whilst this poor weather is about and perhaps up their intake of Cod liver oil and garlic powder

Tick - the flavoured yoghurt would have sugar in so personally I wouldn't. I make mine with long life skimmed milk in an electric yoghurt maker so it only costs about 60p a litre!

Dunno if you can get it in France, 'cept off tinterweb Better ask Nicos I think. Poultry Spice is a mineral feeding supplement, smells lovely and contains Minerals (doesn't say what though), Micronised Wheat, Powdered Ginger, Turmeric, Fenugreek and Aniseed

how much should the chicken spice cost? my local feed seller says she can get some but doesnt know how much yet as they mainly sell horsey stuff,and how is it used?

I pay about �4.50 for the small tub - 500g I think. You sprinkle a teaspoonful per 10 birds on to their food.

I mix mine into some oats and layer mix with hot water, it smells lovely...

I probably use the the tip of the teaspoon in each small bowl of mix each day, and after this thread will continue to do so until the weather picks up

thanks suecooks and tick9,i will be getting some poultry spice and use as advised to boost the birds after the long cold spell,get them in top condition for the spring, much appreciated.
