As in, is there anyone out there who does carry chooks? A couple of people have said try pigeon carriers, has anyone tried this?
Or are there companies that do and are they any good?
Just that at some point I would like to be able to buy some adult birds of breeds that I cant get round here. Or maybe swop the odd rooster rather than trying to hatch a different bloodline..I'm sure there will be somebody around who has a spare roo And while I will drive so far for some even I think a 4 hour round trip is probably enough. Maybe...

Try contacting the Wernlas Collection. They arrange delivery all over the country so must use a carrier. Worth a phone call. Other big supliers must do the same.
For the pigeon route get in touch with your local pigeon fanciers - I found a lost racing pigeon which I managed to get taken back home to South Wales through the local club. I Googled it.

depends how many you want to carry, I used large cat carriers for my ex-batts & when I collected Lynda's 3 & they were fine. got Lynda's girls in 1 large cat carrier and they are quite big girls & they were ok

Is there not a regional poultry club in your area? this should have a list of reputable breeders. Round my way there is an Autumn Stock show with the Essex/Suffolk club - a great opportunity to sell graded (ie: garden/breeding/exhibition) stock.

Moola, I havent found one yet..but that doesnt mean there isnt...I'll ask at some of the agri shows next summer (assuming we get one)
Thanks Flum, Sue n Bramble good ideas. It took about �20 in diesal to fetch Lyndas bunch from Manchesterish, so �35 from anywhere starts to sound reasonable after that. Although I'm still thinking that next time I go down to annoy mum'n'dad I'll be passing (nearly) Bramble (thinks..if I can fit 5 teenage hybrids in my dog cage with loadsa room to spare ..how many poots, or pekins or legbar, or ....if my OH sees this I'll get sent to the norty step )

I think that's a good idea I've got friends and relatives in Milton Keynes, Melton Mowbray and Bridlington and a (possible) "holding coop/run" here at home so I'd be willing to help out if I can

yes eco - i have more pekins than i can shake a stick at, i also have millefleur barbu d'uccle, lavender barbu (well thats what i think they are but the mrs has a fancy name for them) and some lemon sable poots. i also have a pair of dutch blue bantams which i hope will start producing soon.

god, i need a 180 egg incubator for next year at this rate!
