Oh no, the crowing has started!

Well,my Wellie boys have been very quiet until now but today one of them attempted to crow. I did a tour of garden centres last week and had a few hopeful leads that someone might like one but as yet these have come to nothing. If only I could re-home 2 of them I might attempt to keep one in the hope he won't get too noisy. At the moment it does look like they are going to be dinner.

Oh Oh....hopefully someone will approach you for one. I have three left at the moment, but they have yet to crow. Hilly took Festher yesterday, which was a god send because he was crowing non stop!

Just keep them locked in until after 8, and if your neighbours say anything explain that you're rehoming them, but just need a few weeks. Most neighbours are ok if they know it is coming to an end. Like you, I'm going to try keep one of the boys...because I want to, and for no other reason!

Thanks Hilary. I'm 99% sure it will be cookery but 1% of me is still hoping for new homes rather than the pot. As Bephlam says I don't think the neighbours will mind waiting if they know the crowing is not for ever. One of my neighbours loves the boys as much as I do and says she will not come into my garden or house again if even one goes into my freezer. I need this neighbour as she looks after my chooks for me when I can't.

No chance now. I've really run out of options. Even RSPCA would only put them down, so it's kinder to cull at home I think. OH has make a door for pop hole today as up until now they have been able to get up when they like as run is fox proof. If he crows tomorrow morning at least it will be muffled. Seems to want to crow early, then not at all during the day.

Could you put him in a cat carrier under the stairs for the night? Then he can go out when everyone ie the neighbours - are up.
When I collected my last ex-batts from our local Animal Rescue place (not RSPCA) they had a few cockerels knocking about. Any near you? Farms with free range hens? I'm sure you've already tried

I've phoned every animal rescue and every vet in the phone book. I've Googled cockerels and poultry until my eyes hurt. I've had few people say they think they know of someone but each lead has come to nothing. Even if I can keep the one quiet the other 2 will probably start. They are all so stunningly beautiful. Dispatch day might be tomorrow so tonight I'm just going to cry mysefl to sleep and I promise that bl@@dy broody can sit on nothing from now on. NEVER again.

Dispatch day is now next Saturday, not tomorrow. It's time for Rose (the only Wellie girls) to sleep in the big coop with the ex-batts and not with her brothers.
