At last - we have collected our hens

We collected four ex-batts today ...



We've ringed them, simply to be able to identify them quickly, although I wish I'd never suggested we each give one of them a name! The rings are green, red, blue and yellow, so their names are Gertrude, Roberta (Bobby), Bridget and Yonlande (Yoda)

For ex-batts, they don't look too bad at all Their combs will shrink a bit once they're getting the fresh air on them. Well done you for rescuing them and allowing them to "be chickens"

I must agree with Maureen for ex batts they are in exceptionally good shape, obvioulsy not newly rescued, but thats good you have more chance of them being ok.

they are all lovely and in a few short weeks you will not recoginse them from these pictures, they will be feathered with bright red combs and a strutt that says I own the world!!! - oh and an attitude to match.

Aaaah! They look lovely-a bit stunned but beautiful! Do there combs grow when they are kept cooped inside?

They've got large combs because of the heat inside the battery farms. They're usually really pale too (mine were a very pale pink when I got the last ones), but once they're outside in the fresh air, they redden up and shrink down

obvioulsy not newly rescued, but thats good you have more chance of them being ok.

I believe they were 'rescued' only two days before we collected them ...
