Jennie - It's at the Miners Arms pub in Morda. Near Oswestry just off the main Oswestry-Welshpool road (A483) I think. Sunday morning 10am. They have over 150 pens already booked so nearly twice as big as last time. She tells me there are people coming from Halesowen and other places away from the area. I'm guessing most folk are trying to offload surplus stock before winter?

Bluemoon - we have some gold laced wyandottes due to hatch this weekend.......... i will let you know if we have any surplus as these are being hatched to order

Yes they are being hatched to order but I always set more than I need in case and I have an order for 2 hens.

Sue - we are going to Leek on Saturday and now it would appear Morda on Sunday. Then 1st week in Sept there is a specialist auction local to us here in Stafford (which is where all my surplus stock goes) although most of what I booked in has since been sold - shouldn't moan I suppose!

I am actually on the look out for a few things - so see you Sunday

Have to say leaning towards the Sussex, probably a light or silver. We live in Sussex too so it seems appropriate somehow. The run we have is about 15 metres by 8 so I think 3 more making 6 altogether would be o.k? Also any tips on introducing new birds?! I was thinking of going to our local poultry breeder where we got the first 3 from but am liking the sound of an auction! Will start seeing if I can find one locally unless anyone knows of any in West Sussex?

This one's fairly comprehensive I would start by looking for breeders in your local area and finding out what they have. Auctions are fun but you can end up bringing in parasites (or worse) to your flock if you're not careful plus you often pay more at auction than you would from a breeder...

I got my 4 lovely Rangers from a local chap who rears them from day old. His hygiene was scrupulous and we've never had any problems with them. He also said if I want to talk over any concerns just ring him up. I have confidence in someone like that! I would personally avoid an auction like the plague. You have no chance of taking back an ailing bird and unless you have separate housing to quarantine new purchases you don't know what you might be introducing to yor precious flock.

Auctions (whatever you are buying) are for the professional or the gambler. If you REALLY know what to look for, you may get a bargain, otherwise you are taking a big chance.
