Wing clipping

Ok, so what do I do? Is 6 and a half weeks too young to clip my babies wings? I've just come in after finding 6 of them perched all along the top of the fence to their run, and it's 5' high!!! Little monsters! Or perhaps I should make some balls and chains and put them round their ankles

You have to remember a chooks natural roosting place is in the branches of the trees Maureen. The alternative to clipping is a covered in run!

they obviously liked it try putting a piece of wire about 6 inches above the fence, so they cant get on it ... and give them a higher perch lol

just in case you do decide to clip at any point. 2 persons to make it easy. One persons hold the bird and spreads wing out. 2nd person cuts the flight feathers in a straight line across the wing about 1.5cm up from the actual skin & root(?) area of feather with sharp pair of normal household scissors. Feathers don't have quicks(?) like dogs claws so they wont bleed if you cut them really close but you might accidentally get skin and you know what chickens are like with blood so a 1 - 2 cm gap is good. Release after one wing is done.

I've done all my gals and when then wings are tucked al la normal stance, you can't notice. I'll do them again once they've got shiny new feathers.
