I have just put my name down for 10 more ex-batty hens they will be here on the 5th of March as we have had so much fun with the other ones we already have...at �1 a bird they lay almost every day and they give me some lovey poo for the garden (when I have composted it)......what more can you want out of ya cooks.

Don't think I like all the fancy chickens you can get they look real nice but don't lay like the ISA Brown does, so why not do something good on the way and take in ex-batty hens....feels good to know your helping out.

I couldn't agree with you more about rescuing ex-batts, they really are such lovely girls and very productive too (well I'm hoping mine will be once they've finished moulting and the weather warms up a bit!)

Oooh, well done you - I love my ex-batts, just wish I'd thought to ask what breed/hybrid they were. I've heard of Warrens, but not ISA browns, suppose I could email BHWT and find out couldn't I?

Mine lay nearly every day, and OH sells the excess at work, so they are now paying for their feed!

Well done. i love my ex-bats, going to get some more soon. I am bartering with people, they bring me in theregreen waste and i give them some eggs. Boy do they appreciate it.. They say the eggs are wonderful.

I think that if not the same, they are pretty close to the same....... I have a vague idea that it was simply a change of name, but I wouldn't get too enthusiastic about claiming that as fact......

I get the impression that breeders can call their hybrids by their own name - so they do! You use the same breed of cockeral and hen as parents but if they are your own line of 'wahtever' you can claim they have characteristics different from anyone else's cross that sounds technically the same. I think the 'rangers' and 'gold stars' that are around look very much like the same recipe too!
