Very pale WHITE yoked eggs?

I'd like to know if anyone out there can explain why my friends chickens are sometimes laying these white yoked eggs? The hens are ex-battery but they have been out of the business now for months. They are well fed and my friend is very experianced - but neither of us can explain this.

Haven't a clue!!! I'm assuming they're being fed layers pellets, got plenty of fresh water available and have greens each day too?

They couldn't have a better life! Greens, Layers mash, grit, worms and snails. My only idea was that they are laying alot of eggs and thier bodies do have trouble keeping up. But I've never heard of this before...

I thought yolk colour was determined by what the hens eat (greens make the yolk darker) however on Googling this apparently red mite and worms can cause pale yolks.

Battery hens are normally pumped full of anti-biotics, and thier food sometimes contains coulourants to colour the egg yolk. (Horrific, is'nt it?) This is because the poor birds are so unwell that thier yolks are pale!
Being not fed colourant food can return egg yolks back to thier pale state, but this ceaces after a little while of free ranging. But you said you had them for months in your care, so maybe it is the pale yolk habit kicking in again?
