  • At last they are here!!!!!

I picked up 4 ex free range girls yesterday and they are great, love them!

Think they are about 1 1/2 years old and came from a flock of 300 free range girls.

They have not used the coop yet and slept in the run last night

But ----------- I have just had my first egg!

Hazel on the hill, you still get to adopt and name the one of your choice

Fantastic! Have you decided on names for the others yet? What will you do with your first egg? Poached on brown bread with lots of butter is my personal first choice but don't let me sway your decision

If they aren't going into the coop you could wait until it's nearly dark and gently put them inside - they should be very docile by then and let you walk up and pick them straight up without fuss (if they aren't already). It's much better for them inside - just in case you get rain overnight and they get caught out.

      Thanks BW,

Yes they are docile and I have picked them up, so I will try doing that tonight. The run is an apex so it is too low for me to get in and they seemed to prefer the covered end last night!

The egg I have been told was fantastic, it was soft boiled with outside plain bread toasted! (I gave the first to a neighbour who was having a bad day)

Can't wait to get one for myself!

That's great Mandy. Can we see them ?
How kind of you to give your very first egg to your neighbour.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
