  • Chicken wings

    Hi Everyone

I have 5 Chooks but one of them keeps escaping ober a 6ft trellice fence covered with chicken wire.
She has allways come back so far and I am after any advice on cliping her feathers, Which wing and how? Do I just use sisors or is there a special way of doing it.

    Any help and advise welcome

    Cheers

    Hi Alan Y,

It's quite easy to clip flight feathers. I normally only clip one wing as this tends to put them off balance when they try liftoff. If possible get someone else to hold the bird, it's easier, spread out the wing and the long feathers nearest her head are the flight ones, get a pair of scissors and holding the feathers to stop them bunching (it can hurt them otherwise) simply cut through the longest ones taking off about 2-3 inches (depending on the size of bird) - job done!
