Lunar Eclipse

Lunar eclipse tonight ... this from the Irish Times...


At first a darkened chunk will appear on the moon's edge, gradually spreading until it is totally covered by the Earth's shadow between 10.44pm and 11.58pm.

I've just been gawping out the window at the lunar eclipse, and it is amazing!

LOL! just been out to look at the eclipse....and the OH looks at me after hearing a noise and says 'was that your stomach?'.....huh! it sounds just like Paul Mac's Frog Choir, there appears to be canoodling going on in next doors pond!

Not sure which was more fun, the eclipse or the frogs.

What a brill site Biscombe.I've just wrote the web site down so I can use at a later date.Lunar eclipes was great.The frogs in our pond were definatley enjoying it too....and the lunar eclipes!!!!!

ahh lyndap jonty greentoes reckons its common knowledge that 'Frogs do sing and spawn at the full moon'. I was mightily impressed.

Your telling me!The pond is absolutley full of spawn.My sons getting fed up of being kept awake at night by all their racket and the absolutley nonestop rain we've had all day hasn't cooled them down at all!

Today i recieved a leaflet from the Organic Gardening Catalogue and there is a new product available its a wall chart and booklet called In Tune with the Moon.

It says "Calendar guide to lunar gardening for 2007. " its item code BKLo. price £10.95

I'm interested at looking at it, but its a bit pricy perhaps.

After reading this thread I was intrigued by the notion of planting in tune with the moon - it all seems to make so much sense. So I ordered the above calendar as I'm very much a visual learner and I thought it's format would suit me.....
What a total con!

On the sample page on the website it shows a section of the calendar with notes on what to plant eg. Mon 29 Flower period - sow sweet peas, graft roses, harvest lavender - root period ends midnight
I assumed that the calendar then would be full of these planting reminders and tips - nothing of the sort. It's simply a colour coded calendar to indicate what phase of the moon is occurring when. I am really disappointed with it - it's not even as though you can write your own notes on it, the spacing is tiny. So it cost me £9.95 for a single A2 sheet calendar with info I could download for free from many other sites re: lunar planting.

Don't bother if you were thinking of buying it. Stick to the books others have recommended.

Thanks for the tip SuzieP - I was tempted myself.

I'm going to plant spuds on the next full moon (31st March) and some 2 weeks later and see if there is a difference in productivity/growth/health etc. Are you planting then. Maybe a few of us could coordinate our own trial?

BTW you can always get the latest phase of the moon on my blog (see below) and you can get the HTTP code to have it on your own. Let me know if you need advice.
