Some plant need to be planted in a block, like sweetcorn, so I've planted 9 plants in a block of 3 x 3:

o o o
that way they can fertilise each other. But there may be other definitions of planting in a block!~
Aerodynamically the bumblebee shouldn't be able to fly, but the bumblebee doesn't know that so it goes on flying anyway.

I block plant everything!
My spuds are looking particularily good. earlies block planted at 12" spacing and maincrop at 15" spacing. My beds are all 4foot wide so a bit of trial and error is essential! After about 20 years you'll get the spacing right!
