Spider mites

The tiny red ones. We have quite a lot aimlessly wandering about everywhere. I don't know if they cause any harm but they do tend to stain your cloths when sitting down

Are they a problem to my fruit/flowers and what can I do about them?

Are these indoors or outdoors? Spray affected plants with water - they like dry conditions. Not sure what control to suggest, but they are sap sucking and do damage.

Outdoors - mostly mooching around on the paving slabs when it's sunny but I can see them on the soil too.

Are you sure they aren't red velvet mites? I was once told by a so called 'expert' that I had red spider mites on my allotment - but I know they don't usually infest outside so I googled them and the red velvet mites are more visible and are a helpful addition to the plot

I don't know the proper name - only that they are barely bigger than the head of a pin and bright scarlet in colour.

Have a look at this link - it shows red spider mite which are pretty small and not very red - they build webs across the plants.

In that case I don't have those - as a kid we just called these red ones spider mites

Ours don't leave webs, they just stroll around unceasingly.

These I guess: This is a red velvet mite and he is here to teach you about love - The Oatmeal
