    Couch grass doesn't have deep roots, so it's relatively easy to fork out.

    Don't waste it, bag it into double blacks sacks to rot down, drown it in a covered bucket of water, or grill it to death on a hot sunny path.

    When it's dead it can go on the compost heap.

    As others have said, get the weeds covered with something to block the light. This will seriously weaken if not kill it all.
    Dig and plant up a little patch at a time. Get some veg plants from garden centre or start off some seeds in modules, so that you have plants ready to go in every bit of ground as you clear it.
