Where's my Rhubarb?!

Hello team!

Newbie allotment haver here...

My allotment came, a few weeks ago, complete with free weeds- but in the corner, was a rhubarb plant, which i was immensely excited about...

I have noticed, though, that it hasn't changed one tiny little bit since i had it (It has little red nubs on... i got impatient and pulled one of them apart and it seemed to have little leaves in but they didn't grow...)- but on other allotments, rhubarb has been growing rather impressive leaves and everything!

Is mine poorly?

Can i give it medicine?

Patience, JJJ Give it a chance this year and see what it does. It may be in need of a feed, or splitting or just some warm weather. My rhubarb plants are all at different stages and some varieties are earlier than others anyway.

My rhubarb are only a few inches yet, I thought it was still a little early for them.

Mine is exactly the same as yours and I have noticed on other plots theirs are growing. I am just going to be patient with mine, as it seems healthy enough.

Can you put some sort of compost/food on it, mine always perks up after a bit of extra food.

last year i picked my first rhubarb about 4th april - it's much later this year - i doubt i'll get any until the end of the month - mine is only a few inches tall at the moment and the leaves are only just opening - it's a case of being patient ......

I have several varieties of rhubarb and they are all at different heights at the moment.
One is only a couple of inches high and also not grown over the last 3 weeks. It clearly doesn't like this extra-cold snap we're having.

As the others say- give it time.
Yours could also be in a colder part of your plot compared to other peeps' plants???

I have a ready supply of well rotted horse poo... obviously i can't get it to the roots, but if i pack it around the plant and then water it, will the pooey goodness get to the roots through the water? if not.... is it just any all purpose plant food?

I'm sure your Rhubarb will LOVE a dose of well rotted horse pooh. Just don't get it on the emerging buds - it could still scorch them.
