Shallots, when to plant?

Hi everyone, before i ask my latest silly question, those of you who enquired, little ones head was fine the next day, just a bruise and a tiny bit of swelling, she was fine (much tougher than her dad! lol)

Anyway.... My Jermor shallots have turned up, ive only grown them from spring before (a different variety, little round ones) am i best holding onto them til it gets a little cooler and later ie december # i'm holding on to my garlic til the shortest day# or should i slip them in now!?

As always any advice greatly received.

I put mine in last week but we do get downy mildew down here and the plan is to get them in and out early before the dreaded black death strikes, the plant them on the shortest day dig them on the longest day doesn't work down here.

My garlic has been in two weeks.It's a race before the rust,which is horendous on the plot,cuts sown the plant. The shallots will go in in early spring/late winter I had quite a few rot last year when i overwintered them

My shallots went in today - and the garlic will go in when I next get a chance; Anytime after 21st Sept to 21st Dec [ish] for me.

Don't speak about rot mate, I threw out more than 10 dozen last weekend . Traditionally shallots are planted on the shortest day and harvested on the longest but folks do what works best for them and that's the best way

I've run out of room again. I've only got a small space for alliums now because there's white rot on the rest of my plot

I may do shallots at home in Morrison's buckets
