I think I really need to get down there with a tape measure and get to grips with where things are, how much space I really have, and then come back and start scaling things out. I like the idea of placing "hardware" first, and now you mention it, it makes perfect sense.
Weather doesn't look favourable this weekend, but I might at least be able to get measuring up and planning proper.
Planned out the beds, spaces for the greenhouse and fedge, then went into super detail and planned out where we were going to plant each variety of crop, only to have to change it all due to getting more seeds and getting the second half plot! We will be planning where everything is going (again) soon!
I guess at least if I plan I can have a starting point with a goal. At the moment all I seem to do when I go is just turn a bit of earth over without any real purpose.
I used to plan out revision timetables when I had exams on the horizon. The only reason I did the planning was to put off doing the revising. Your not doing all this planning so that you can put off doing the digging?
Lol Ian, definitely not! We've almost completely double dug our plot (250m2) in the 5 months we've had it to remove all the weed roots that were in it, and still have to turn over the beds on plot No2, so digging is still something we are very much doing, the planning happens usually in the evening, after we've finished work or digging for the day!
Managed (between showers) to measure the plot yesterday. 10x20m. I have a 4x3m strawberry patch, my tree and composter take up another 3x6m. Now then. where was my scale ruler....
Oh, and my Azada and long-handled spade arrived today!!
