How to take wooden pallets apart?

I was given 2 pallets with 6" nails hammered into them, and when I say hammered, they were right in with no chance of using a claw hammer on them.

I ended up using a hammer and chisel, starting in the middle. Once that was free the ends came apart a lot easier.
