Help Needed!

Can anyone help? I�ve been given an old oil drum, which has been converted into a water butt (with a tap connected to base). I�m not sure what the oil drum was used for, but it�s now quite rusty inside.

Can I spray the inside of the oil drum with a primer, e.g. �Hammerite�, and if so, will it be safe to use on the Lottie?

Don't see why not, hammerite is waterproof. Scrub it with a wire brush first though.

Thanks Taff, Yes forgot to say I'd prepare the drum for painting. If anyone has anymore alternative suggestions, then please let us know.

if you were feeling a dab hand with some glue and some rubber, you could make a liner for it instead, but it'll be really fiddly round the tap bit.

Might be worth checking out some marine suppliers for primers/topcoats designed for boats etc.

Problem with it having rusted is that it might be difficult to get the primer to bond correctly with the surface which may end up causing it to flake off.

Apparently this Hammerite product will work on rusty metal though (hence the name I guess!)
