Net curtains

Hi All,
Repeating my question that I posted in response to an old thread as I received no response

Your feeback is appreciated as need to decide what to buy for brassicas
I saw some net curtains in a charity shop but the new was not very fine so I am not sure if that will be good enough. Any one has any pics of not so fine netting that was sucessfully used to keep cabbage fly/ butterflies and caterpillar out?

I use net curtains to cover my fruit bushes. I've dyed them green so they look better, but I really don't think the colour matters! They certainly keep the birds of the fruit and would be fine enough to keep off butterflies, I think. The main problem is that I only use them when the fruit is almost ready so the bushes are often covered in aphids already by that point and once the nets are on the ladybirds can't do their job.

The Ikea ones look great Your other ones might be ok, it depends on the size of the holes, and how far away you can keep them from your plants - the butterflies only need to be able to get their bum through the hole and if the nets are touching the plants they can still lay their eggs.

thanks for that..I think the ikea ones are really cheap and huge too so will mostly go with them. Got my weekend plans sorted now

We tried the Ikea ones last year, they are ok, but not big enough for our beds, so trying to sow together with string was the only option at the time, Looked a mess, worked to a degree, but being soo light they ofter blew off, whereas scaffold netting is a bit tougher in our experience!

Thats a good point. I am looking at enbay to buy scafold netting. Only thing is u have to buy 50 mts and maybe I don't need all that. But I guess it cheaper that way.
