I've just bought some raspberry canes, what would be the minimum soil depth needed for planting?...also, should I give the roots a good drink before planting or doesn't it matter?
I would plant them about 50cm deeper than what they were in the pots, if it were me I would leave the canes in water for about an hour before planting.
the canes actually arrived bare rooted, I had been planning to grow them in large buckets but the roots are too large. Thanks for the advice , it's great to be able to ask allsorts, things that will seem obvious to experienced gardeners aren't when you're a newbie.
hi,
bit difficult to say - looks like maybe an inch to three inches of the cane have been in soil...there are shoots coming up from the base - so I guess they should all be under the soil when I plant ?
