Right Jennie, you just reminded me of all the jobs in the house that went on the lomg finger in the summer months. Will be catching up on those and doing some papering and painting as the windows have all been replaced and now every room has torn paper on. that should keep me going for a while. And then theres Christmas. What was i saying about things to fill in the dark cold nights...........

I do find time for a bit of craftwork though - scrapbooking and card making, but I am into amateur dramatics and its panto this year - OH yes it is !

Never had you down as a thespian (still haven't seen the two on the plot next to me for months ..... oh hang on they're not Thespians they're ....er something else)

DDL - I thought about your thread this afternoon, when I was working away and yes my outside beds are tucked up for the winter and for the last two seasons I have always felt that that was it. But I realised that this year, I have got so many winter veg planted in the polytunnel, that every space is being used. Surprised myself when I noticed! Onions, cabbage, leeks (loads of leeks!), chard, garlic, herbs, winter lettuce and cauliflower. Perhaps you could try some of these under a cloche? Or talk OH into letting you get a polytunnel ????

Hi everyone! and thanks Snadger! Good ideas Jennie - unfortunately no more space in my back garden so no polytunnel for me! Actually, I have got a few leeks still growing and have put some cauliflowers, cabbage, french beans in paper pots, and have got my christmas spuds in the ground, as well as some in pots, as well as garlic and onions in pots - so no, it's not "all over" really, its just that my main beds are now having a rest for the winter! DDL

I know Nick! My OH isn't very keen on the idea because he thinks I already have enough to do - but he has been very impressed with me and my back garden this year. SO.....have written to one secretary of the one I would really like a lottie on, and am going to do a little detour on the way to work tomorrow, where there are some more! Have the phone number to ring if I'm interested! (only looking at the moment - haven't told OH - yet! ) DDL

It is kinda sad this time of year. Runner beans still out there, though if a frost is iminent, then I'll grab em and hang them up to dry - like butter beans (all I need then is some breadcrumbs and a mouse mill).
Got leeks, garlic, an escaped broad bean, some winter Japanese radish things (Daikon?), a cabbage, two sprouts and two purple sprouting broccoli, and a courgette on the plot. At home, got raspberries, strawberries, one parsnip, spring onions, french beans, a runaway pumpkin, various herbs, and sown chicory, winter lettuces and other leaves, some brassicas, ...
Didn't get round to sowing Kale this year - got 2 heritage varieties of it in the lucky dip/welcome packet of seeds on joining.

Snadger I don't think your 'non flowering' sweet peas can be all that rare - I had some as well this year- lots of pretty straggly stems & leaves & nowt else!
Well done on keeping it all up & going this year DDL. My plot sounds probably smaller than yours - we could both do with a lottie- but I'm not sure I've got the dedication to maintain a big area!
