i have germinated them and now i have around 6 small date palm seedlings in used pot noodle containers....

I,ve grown a date plant from a seed (christmas dates from local Turkish shop) planted christmas 2007. It is all of a foot tall and all leaf (no trunk), mum reckoned they eventually grow to a 14 foot tree (at this rate in this climate, probably never). It has suffered a lot of abuse from me (bad light/wrong watering etc) but is still going strong.

Most of the seed I buried in damp potting compost germinated but took a few weeks to do so (I was about to give up). Unless global warming really really takes a turn for the worse I doubt I'll ever see any dates but it makes a nice house plant!

i have 8 growing nicely, from dates bought at tescos, if you do a search i think i posted a link in a thread about how to do it, tis very easy
