  • Getting rid of ants.

I found ants nesting in the bottom of two of my pots in the greenhouse yesterday.
Any tips to get rid of them would be very helpful.
I took the pots out and cleaned and sprayed the area with white vinegar.

Fine, dry, polenta, sprinkled liberally in the area they are hanging around.

Apparently they take it back to the ‘nest’ and it swells and kills the queen. Something like that.
I’ve tried it with good results. It does need to be fine .

I normally spray with amt and crawling insect killer. If you find any eggs spray them liberally as they will carry them deeper into the nest. The spray leaves a sticky residue.
It is often in the seasonal section of most supermarkets.

          Defender powder and syrup bait.

I once brought in a pot of lilies with a nest in it.

Came down in the morning and found insides of bifolds were covered in flying ants!

          Try flooding the pots.

Agree about the flooding bit. They won’t stay in waterlogged soil. ( wouldn’t be good for any plants though!)
