  • Asparagus

This is the third year of our asparagus beds. We’ve yet to harvest some. However I am worried that the minus 6 degrees temperature last night may have killed them. They are in raised beds and not showing yet ( obviously). We are in Northamptonshire. Any advice would appreciated.

Asparagus crowns are very hardy. It would take a lot more than -6 to kill them.
Late frosts can damage or kill the emerging shoots, though.

          I'm a convincing liar

as Ameno says theyre tough its the emerging shoots that are tender but subsequent shoots(spears) will be OK

Thank you both. After all the expense and effort, it would be a bummer to loose them so close to the first crop.

you might loose the first few shoots if they are already above ground but the crowns are pretty hardy and they will shoot again, just a bit later.
