When to pick?

This is prob going to sound like a really silly question but im seroius lol

When and how do you know when to pick your veg?

I have a cucumber at the mo which is pretty big, but im not sure if i should pick it or not.

How do you know when they are done? i mean, will it get bigger, i dont wnt to pick it now if it will get bigger lol

Do they fall off when they are ready?

Help, i have no clue lol

I think they are ready when the end is rounded and no longer pointy, i'm sure i read that somewhere but i am by no means an expert - sure someone who knows what they're talking about will be along soon to confirm or correct!!

You can eat your veg when you like. Some people aim to grow whoppers and some people like baby veg - young and tender. I like them small myself, two person size. You can eat your cucumber if you like.

I've been chopping mine off to eat when they get to shop cucumber size. I did leave one on to see how big it would get and had to cut it off the other day as it was snapping the stalk! It got to about 19 inches and weighed 3.6lbs!!! Really wanted to leave it as long as poss, just to see how big it would get! Can't imagine it will taste as good as the smaller ones...... will have some tonight after i've taken a piccie of it

I read the other day when the end of the cucumber is rounded. I picked 2 of mine yesterday

mines almost rounded, still got a tiny pointy bit so i will leave it a week or so

I usually pick the first ones small so that they don't hold the plant back. The later ones are left longer to ripen. Just make sure they don't start to turn yellow on the plant or there is a chance the plant will stop producing.
