  • Shoot out of seed points which way?

I've germinated a few seeds in sandwich bags on moist kitchen paper

But i dont know which way they should go in the compost. Is the shoot out the root because i've seen chilli with teh seed on the leaf before. Is that across the board?

I reckon the first shoot is the root.
I germinated some beans on kitchen roll, and planted them 'wrong way up'. They grow in a loop, as the leaf tries to grow up from being planted face down. Fascinating, but not very efficient if you're trying to grow food!

Doesn't really matter if they are little seeds, but if it's things like peas and beans, then it does matter. First shoot out of the seed is usually the root, so it's best to plant with this shoot downwards. As Twosheds says, they do try to correct themselves, but it leads to some interesting plants!!!

I'd plant it sideways. Then it can make its own mind up which way it wants to go
