Chili Peppers

Hi to all,

Just went out to the greenhouse to check on my chilli peppers which I put out there yesterday and most of the leaves have wilted is it because it is to hot in the greenhouse and will they grow back healthy if I put them back in the kitchen window

I would guess either too hot or lacking water, mine were watered this morning and haven't wilted and the greenhouse is in full sun all day if that helps at all

every night when i come home from work mine are wilting, i water them and within an hour they perk back up.

Yesterday I forgot to phone home and ask OH to open my greenhouse door when it got real hot - not being a gardener in any way shape or form she wouldn't know to do it without being told Result was all my toms, chillies, cukes, and flowers looked half dead when I got home - opened door to help drop the temp and increase airflow through the autovented window, gave them all a good drink and within an hour or so they had fully recovered.

Rat, when the greenhouse gets too hot if you damp down the floor it really helps to knock the temperature down. Also hot , humid air is much less damaging to plants than hot and dry. The forecast for the coming week is for very hot so might be an idea to wet the greenhouse floor before you go off to work.

Will try to do that tomorrow morning - trouble is it's not very warm at 6 in the morning and this morning was cloudy and we had a sea harr too, so didn't think we would get the scorcher of a day that we did.

Thanks to all, took them out of the greenhouse and watered them all but one recovered

My chillies really weren't doing anything in the greenhouse but since I've been taking them out in the morning and leaving in the sun they've shot up! I still put them to bed in the greenhouse at night, just to keep them warm

Don't know if this helps but i water everything in the morning before the sun shines on them. My argument is that I am thirsty when hot so think plants will be too.

Mind I'm not an expert!

A lot of plants will wilt in the heat & if you leave them overnight they will pick up again & don't really need watering (Chrysanths in pots are the ones that come straight to mind).

Also if you water inthe morning before it's had chance to warm up they will get a better drink & any spilt water will be dry before night time - especially important if your in the greenhouse as it's a closed atmoshere. Hot & damp is ideal for moulds & fungi
