You could also try French Beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, courgettes, peas? If you don't have time for all the seed sowing etc, don't forget that B&Q/garden centre have a great selection of organic starter plants these days, thay usually start getting stock about April.

hiya Mike! I'm in Warrington and I'm starting to grow stuff myself this year. Just finished building a small greenhouse and I've got some chillis, peppers and tomatoes on the go. I think I'm gonna try a few other different veg's as well just to see how I get on. Good luck!
