  • How Should I Propagate This Pot Plant?

I would like to propagate a couple of new plants from the one in the foreground of the picture below:

Could anyone suggest what a suitable method might be (cutting, division, layering)?

Also does anyone recognise the type of plant? As I have no idea what it is and therefore how best to care for it. It has lived for some time with nothing other than occasional watering but now seems as if it may be in need of some additional nutrition.

looks a bit like a willow - cuttings are the normal method for them

Looks willowy but never heard of willow as pot plant. Usually big tree!

Any chance of close up of top of plant please.

        Is it a bamboo?

If it is bamboo, division is your best bet.

            Is it one of these?

It looks like one of those bamboo palm plants for indoors.

Thank you for all those helpful comments. I think that the plant is a ficus as you suggest.

Here are a couple of closer up photos of the leaves:

Bit late to this, but cuttings in water works very well.

Definitely try rooting in water. I have a few similar plants and usually have good results from taking various cuttings- a small branch, peeled off off the main stem so a little heel is left at the base, or snipping off the top few inches of a growing tip or even prying out a new shoot- placing it in a glass of water and changing the water every couple of weeks (filtered or even regular tap water that has been sitting overnight so most of the chlorine has evaporated) to avoid it starting to get wiffy and placing it in a window. In a few weeks you will hopefully have roots showing. In a few more weeks you should have enough to pot up. Good luck!!
