Courgettes are starting to flower

Hello all;

I started growing a small plat last year and did ok... Peas, courgettes, beans, tomatoes, chillies etc...
This year, new house with a bigger garden and a conservatory. I started some seeds off several weeks ago and the plants have grown huge...

Pots are currently big enough however (I think I know the answer) Tom's, courgettes and cucumbers have started to show flowers. Are these for the compost and start again?

Can they be rescued?

Don't put them on the compost . When you say they've grown huge. How huge?
If they're big plants in big pot and they're flowering. That's kinda what they're supposed to do . If you've got the space, just let them carry on. you can plant them out in a few more weeks after all risk of frost has gone.

OK, so maybe not huge but the cuc's and courgettes are about 15 - 18 inch tall and 24 inch spread each.
They're budding up, and I can see a little yellow on a few.
Ill hang on and see where we get too... plant them out when the chance of frost has gone. I did have all four seasons last weekend tho..

I would plant them out now, keep some fleece handy in case of cold nights... weather looks good this weekend. They'll start to struggle in pots and once they stall they sometimes fail to get going again.

Can you pot your courgettes into something like a recycling box? mine do well grown in those have to keep an eye on the watering though.

You sound like me last year ie have a conservatory so things planted early, they look and grow great but a transfer out time mis-match. I would suggest making a note of all dates so can resist the eager gardner urge to plant next year by say 2 weeks, what I have done this year

If you can grow them inside do that rather than risk loosing them by putting them outside, and just a reminder or info if you don't know, check the seed packet of your cucs to see if you need to remove the male flowers

Agree with the advice given. I’ve had my courgettes in an unheated greenhouse overnight for the last week or so but been keeping an eye on the overnight temp and covering in fleece if predicted to be really low. Toms and cucumbers are pretty tender so putting them out during the day and leaving in at night at moment. I find courgettes are pretty robust but wouldn’t risk planting out until next month. I’m pretty far north though. So yes keep inside if you can it’s only for a few more weeks.
