When I lift my potatoes, I look at each tuber to see if any slugs have burrowed into it. Affected ones are thrown aside for immediate use, because they won't keep.

This is what I ended up with when I dug up a bed of Maris Piper this afternoon.

The pile on the left is slug free or with only superficial slug damage. The pile on the right is the discards, with deep slug holes:



Wasn't it nice of my slimy friends to leave me 10% of the crop?

Four bags planted with "Pink Fir Apple" - thank goodness i didn't have friends to dinner,although they tasted lovely!

Won't be wasting the compost on these next year!

Carrots!

My bumper crop of Autumn King carrots. See the pot of raspberries for scale. Actually, one of the carrots is a purple haze. Nice colour. Shame about the size. Not sure what happened this year. Voles and rabbits eating the foliage as it grew is a likely cause. Can't be my gardening skills at fault of course!

The corn second from left is 2 'coblets' not one. An impressive 4 rows of kernels. My entire harvest from 16 plants, which ranged in height from 1ft to 18 inches tall.

I can see those envious looks from here...
