  • Greenhouse Peach advice - please....

    Hello everyone:

We're planning on getting a 15' greenhouse in order to grow peaches/apricots/similar fruits. Any help on the following decisions v. gratefully received....

    1. Lean-to with wall to grow against, or free-standing? The lean-to would be west-facing, but is in a very open spot.

    2. Pots, or straight in the ground?

    Thanks, people....

When I was a kid we had a couple of peach trees growing up the side of the house, and my dad just built a lean-to greenhouse round them. They seemed to like it. They liked the wall to grow up, and they liked being in the ground.

We had a peach tree growing under a glass roof outside the kitchen door - open sided but quite sheltered. It needed pollinating as the bees were never quite early enough!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Assuming it is a brick or stone wall then it will help by acting like a storage radiator, absorbing the heat during the day and giving it out at night. Won't make difference of loads but it will help. For similar reasons, the ground is usually slightly warmer than pots and as Jeanied says peaches (and apricots) blossom very early so need all the help they can get.
Why didn't Noah just swat those 2 greenflies?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?
