  • Is hard water bad news for fruit bushes/canes?

We're in a hard water area, and I think I read somewhere that fruit bushes/canes do better if watered with rainwater, as it's softer than tap water.

Does this ring true with anyone?

I live in a hard water area and always use rain water when it is available. During the dry summer, I have to use tap water.

One interesting point is that I have measured the rain water a few times this year of pH and it had been bang on neutral. No acid rain in my area.

From my limited experience I would think that rain water would be better than hard water due to the lime content in hard water. I think fruit bushes like it on the acidic side if memory serves me right. Other vines please correct me if I am wrong.

How about purified/filtered water? Too pure for fruit?
