I have some whitecurrants (a colourless variant of the red and black currants).
My whitecurrants are as tough as old boots. Very difficult to do them any harm. Very easy to propagate new plants from cuttings or ground-layering.
The birds seem to prefer stealing my blueberries and leave the whitecurrants untouched.
Just make sure that they get regular watering for their first growing season, to encourage the roots to grow.
Yep...........birds love my redcurrants but don't seem to bother with the blackcurrants!
My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)
Recently put one each of black and whitecurrant bushes so will see what happens. I get problems with Solomon's Seal sawfly so not sure if they cause any trouble or if they are completely different.
I would make sure you net the plants in good time as they will flower quite early and quite suddenly. The birds love the blossoms so you might find the strigs are half empty before you realise what's happening.
