When is teh best time of year to plant rhubarb?

My father in law has just cleared part of my veggie patch and ther eis now enough space for a third rhubarb plant.

Just wondered whether I could bung one in now or whether itt is the wrong tome to do so. If so, when would you recommend?

As far as I know it's best to transplant when dormant. That said, I planted 5 new crowns around February time and only two are growing, so I clearly know very little about success with rhubarb!

You split and replant around the start of November, when the plant is dormant, you will have to incorporate manure to enrich the soil. You can also leave the crowns on the surface to be frosted but it never gets cold enough now, so get them in and then in early spring top dress with compost/manure.
