    Itethe same as any fruiting vine, pruning it controls the growth, directs it to growing where you want it, encourages fruiting and hopefully removes the need to build a concrete based greenhouse on top of it.

    Summer pruning is to reduce vigour and form the plant, winter (dormant) pruning is to improve the vigour. A plant pruned in its dormancy should spring back more vigorously as all the sap stored in the root and stem are focused into less buds
