  • Potted on lots of tomatoes, 7 SMarzano Versuvio, 7 SMarzano Lungo, 7 unknown Upright, 7 Amish Paste. Left the rest till next week, and pinched out tomato seedlings that were looking weedy.
    Potted on artichokes x 5
    Planted out peas, leeks.
Potted up some self seeded borage because I dug it up and forgot to take it where I was supposed to yesterday.

    • Morning - started to reclaim our own garden from three years of neglect - out with the strimmer, which Niamh thinks is a noisy monster that eats grass, and out with the newly accquired shredder to deal with some shrub prunings.
Afternoon - Took Niamh and Iona out to tunnel where we potted on 56 Gardeners Delight, 60 Golden Sunrise and 60 Moneymaker tomatoes, sowed 4 rows of Parsnips and 2 rows Cylindra beetroot and 2 rows of Chioggia beetroot in the tunnel. Watered everything thoroughly, then we went outside and planted some Red Duke of York and some Kerrs Pink potatoes.

      • Today I -

Stood in the greenhouse wishing the rain would stop so I could do some digging .
It was dark. And cold. And very, very empty.

And in the middle of all of the dark, cold, emptiness lay something darker, and colder, but very, very full.

        • This week has been a lot of digging, destoning, seaweed gathering for the last two raised beds in own garden. Potting on seedlings and sowing some annual flowers.

Today, went to help at new allotments open day, built raised beds with others. And now the proud owner of half a plot, while I wait for my one. More digging and destoning then!

          • Went to lottie and planted out beetroot (started in half loo rolls) more onions , limanthes, and remaining Bored beans. Sowed some beetroot direct. Meanwhile OH improved the rabbit defences.
At home in GH sowed climbing French beans, gherkins , scallop squash (to replace those that Jake decided to throw around the garden)and potted on another pumpkin.
S*d the housework I have a lottie to dig

            • Next door neighbour gave me her topsoil left over from her new raised beds so now I don't need to buy any
Son finally managed to dig, saw, axe and cuss the root of the old apple tree out so I can now put together the last of the raised beds and get my strawberries planted. I raked and dug over some of the ground but it was too hot to do much
Watered all the pots, cleared some blanket weed from the pond then put up the new water butt collected from a fellow recycler. Collapsed with a cool drink

              • Put together my remaining potato bags (which were a real struggle to get the plastic reinforcing ring threaded through) and planted some Charlottes and Nicolas in them.
I still have my weirdly chitting (Sharpes Express and Elgar) ones going (which ended up with small green leaves and thing stringy roots) and I'd chickened out and got some Charlottes and Nicolas in as a back up. The others are showing through the compost in the bags so maybe they will be ok after all.
Now my patio is full of bags.
Had a brainwave of writing on wooden pegs the variety and clipping them to the top of the bags so that I knew what was where.

Planted up 2 containers, one with spinach and the other with some cut and come again lettuce.
Not much actually in the garden yet but I'm researching what grows in shady spots so I'm off to read these forums for inspiration.
Its nice to be important but its more important to be nice

                • Yesterday i sowed seeds of Paris Silverskin Onions, Yellow Chard, Rudolph Brocolli, Medina Spinach, & Trifolium Rubens - which i just liked the look of when browsing a seed site last week! The only real seed sowing session needed now is for Pumpkins & Peas ( and 2nd batches / successional stuff) got the majority of the other stuff under way - greenhouse is quickly running out of room!

                  • Today i have finally got into the origional flower bed & gave it a good weed - 1 large trug full! Also weeded the flagstone path in front of it - both have been crying out to be done for several weeks now & i have been turning a deaf ear! Looks so much better but the top soil in the bed is rock hard clay so needs forking over & mulching as next priority - it may then look like someone owns it!

                    • Put new raised bed in its new home and filled it with manure and topsoil ready for the strawberries I have ordered. Weeded and watered the SFG bed. Planted 3 more pots with potatoes and a wooden crate with carrots. Moved some of the tomatoes out of the mini houses this morning and back in again this evening and have bought some out of the mini walk in greenhouse to join them. Helped mum tie up the roses and train the clematis. Put stakes at each end of the bored beans to support twine to support beans as they grow. Really is looking like a productive, loved garden at last, not so much like a building site.

                      • Yesterday potted on loads of tomatoes, today potted on some herbs and lavender.

Finished destoning fourth and final raised bed in garden.

Had an hour at lottie, moving topsoil. Glad I didn't have time for more!

Came home and sowed some annual flowers

                        • Busy day today for me in the garden, potted on Sweetcorn, Cabbage, Red Cabbage, Brussel Sprouts, Brocolli, Tomatos, Strawberries, Pumpkin and Melon.

Sewed Courgette and more lettuce, planted the maincrop potatoes, King Edwards, think I may of been a little bit late doing this.

Found the chickens eating a tomato but luckily saved it!
