just a thought, could you get an extraction licence from the nearest watercourse?

Ours is a parish council site, too. Mains water, included in rent. We're on a water meter, so I suspect we may be asked to pay more next year. Most veg growers don't water in a normal year, but the hen pens on over 50% of the site obvs need regular fresh water. Stand pipes every 3 plots or so. This year people have used hosepipes, but usually most just use the odd watering can if they need to.

As far a I can remember with a borehole you can extract up to 20000 litres a day without special licence. Once you hit that mark you're going to have to get a licence from some gov office or other.
How many plots are there on your site?

Small number, Jay-ell, only a village. I think there's 26 officially but some have been combined, some divided, several overrun and vacant, it's all a bit casual.... If token rents were increased there'd probably be howls of disapproval. I did investigate the borehole option a few years ago (there's a relatively local company specialises in such technicalities for farmers etc) but it was way beyond our means and would probably be more now. It rained a bit today, hurrah, that's the answer!Originally posted by Jay-ell View PostHow many plots are there on your site?

So vacancies, treepixie! We have allotment vacancies too which seems extraordinary when I read some sites have 10 year waiting lists! Part of my mini-campaign for mains water is some services might encourage others (another reason is I'm fed up carting it down there!Originally posted by treepixie View PostAround about 40, but not all are being used
