  • Composting toilet on allotment

Anyone have any experience/recommendations with composting toilets - especially on an allotment site? I've probably asked similar before but the issue has come up again following our AGM.

We're a small site - about 50 plots - and have an opportunity to get funding from the town council for an on-site toilet. (I'd not use it myself as my liquid gold is too too precious). There are a number of plot holders who would benefit. Problem we'd have with a mains connected loo is that we'd be on a meter and the chances of something going wrong / people being naughty mean that we're reluctant to go down that route. The mayor has an historical appreciation of composting toilets that is based on "long-drop and lime" (which isn't a song nor a drink) so would like some info on modern solutions - I've done some research but would like to hear any "first-hand" experience you might have. Ta muchly.

We have a composting toilet on our site from Ecotoilets | Dry and Composting Toilets for Houses, Allotments
Seems to be very good so far, mostly used by the kids and older folk.
