Lawnmower width

I have just gotten a new plot and it has a couple raised beds in but so much grassy areas it's pretty much a blank canvas after cutting down the 5ft grass.
My dad in law has a plot next to this one so has kindly volunteered himself to mow the paths for me if I keep them wide enough for the mower.
My dilemma is I have no clue at the width of a petrol mower. I realise they must vary from each other but I thought I'd look online and find dimensions of a few and I'd leave space for the biggest one. That plan has failed as I only seem to be finding the blade length size.
Does anyone happen to have an idea how wide a petrol mower is pleeeeaaaase?

I could but I'd be waiting 3 weeks for an answer

I have the keys to his shed etc at the moment as they are away but the mower is at the stables as he last used it there so I'm a bit stuck for 3 weeks

Your dad in law sounds lovely They can be just normal mower size about 19 or 20 inches I think. If you had 2ft wide paths that should be wide enough,unless it's a sit on petrol mower? Buy him a new lawnmower for fathers day that will fit your paths lol!

That is a plan!!! He is lovely and much more as is MIL they are stars.
I was thinking 50-60cm but I really didn't know. Didn't want to leave paths too big and lose growing space but didn't want to leave them too small. He

I suspect that the cut of a mower is going to be about the same as the width but if you add about 10 centemetres or 4 inches that should give you enough space. I would think that paths about 2 feet (66 cm) wide will be enough.

If you start off at that width then you can still reduce it when your father in law gets home.

These range between 43cm & 51cm but obviously would be better if you knew FIL's model.

Another point worth considering is to ensure the paths are wide enough to comfortably push a wheel barrow down

..............and also enough room to kneel down comfortably.

Normally, paths within a plot are 2 foot wide and paths along exterior boundaries are 3 foot wide. A normal rotary lawnmower will be 18" to 2 foot wide so a double cut side by side will be required around plots.

Think I'm probably better waiting the 3 weeks to be sensible aren't I.
I want to do this plot as square foot gardening. Being so new to it all its going to take me quite a while to plan what goes where to get things with their companions properly that was my hurry to get started I'm going to attempt to not just fit it in where there's a space with this one as it's much bigger than my current plot. Guess I should just wait

I made the main path through my plot 900mm/3ft and the off shoot paths 600mm/2ft. Wish I had made them all the 900mm/3ft width as sometime it's a bit tight turning a barrow into 600mm/2ft path between raised beds.
