I find leaving lettuce leaves in the water makes it sweeter, is it just me?

I will diffo wash the leaves more. I however never wash the bought packet ones, interesting.
When I make spinach pie, I wash the spinach and drain and then add a lots of salt to drain the water of the leaves, so it softens and I can mix it in the pie. My guess is they mix the salt with water and submerge the leaves in the bowl, so is probably not that drastic. I guess!
