Fish pond water

I have a fairly large fish pond and every so often I empty a percentage of the water and refill with fresh. My question is, is this water safe to use on my plants, it must contain a lot of fish do doo's which is good food for plants, but will it make my produce fishy smelling of have other harmful side effects?

If you use chemicals in the water I'd not use it on veg I eat, but I'd just be careful not to splash leafy veg that you might eat with it.

Other than that, I'd use it on flowers otherwise.. assuming it's not stagnant

That said, I don't have a pond, but it'd what I'd do.

Won't do your plants any harm at all. Chris said about not using it on edible stuff, but if you water the soil and not the leaves it should be fine.

Anyway, I presume you wash your veg before eating it.

Yes thats about what i thought, the pond is'nt stagnant, it is oxygenated with a pump and filter and has pond plants in it. Plus 14 shabumkins. It seems such a waste to flush 50 odd gallons down the drain. I shall use it mainly on tomatoes and cucumbers so i wont be eating the leaves anyway. Thank you for the responses.

regularly clean out my filter,every 5 days or so and use the muck on the lawn,washed in,and the grass is particularly lush that end.The waters probably better for the vag than tapwater with it's associated chlorine load.Ipump out my pond once a year in the early autumn onto the garden and never have a problem,thats about 8 cubic meters of water.thats the only time I top up with tapwater and add a dechlorinator,the rest of the year it gets overspill from the waterbutts that drain off the house roof

Nothing wrong with using pond water as long as you water the soil and not the leaves.

I use the water from my fish tanks to water plants in my flat.

I always use the fish pond water for the plants. As you say its full of nutrients and really helps
stuff grow.

As long as you dont use any chemicals in the water though.

I have watercress growing in there also and it thrives.. I pull handfuls out every few weeks.
But people dont want to eat it when they know where it grows.

I say are the home grown tomatoes nice and the strawberries etc etc. They are scoff
them down. I just smile and think yep all watered with fishy poo.

I remember once we added a bit too much cod liver oil to our chicken mash and the egg grading station rejected a whole batch of eggs for smelling fishy.
