As per title , the pics show my new chicken house that I built a fortnight ago out of a 7x5 ft shed, also the picture showing the plot running downwards shows a lean to that I put up one afternoon and cost lest that �20 to erect, it gives us a degree of protection from the wind and rain and as we spend many hours sat next to the table it had to be comfy.

Never thought to grow carrots in potato bags, thanks for the idea will do that next yr 😄

bren its ok but not as good as I thought it was going to be though, its still only half full though but its getting there slowly.

Tina it was my wife's idea, the first year we grew carrots on the ground surrounded by onions as we read it discourages carrot fly, well it dosent! every single one got caught that year and were fed to our birds.
Last year my wife bought those bags from poundland I think,and she placed a layer of poultry manure on the base then filled them up with multi purpose compost and she just sprinkled the seeds on top , she did not thin them or do anything other than water them, yet she won 1st prize in our towns carnival gardening competition, for the best carrot category. just goes to show you don't need all these fancy dangle things to achieve good results.

Wow, congrats to her, how exciting I'm gonna jot this down, try it out and then let you know how I get on ...watch this space!

I nearly drowned under a mound of carrots last yr but haven't really got the room (yet) to rotate so this year they are in a trug, next to onions but I'm not convinced that there is a lot going on below the soil because there is definitely not a lot going on above

Honestly, it looks great - and now I feel slightly guilty about my messy plot, where I have visions of projects to undertake whirling around in my head which will lead to perfection and "never" enough time to follow them through.
