  • Combatting rabbits and badgers.

Working from home yesterday and popped to my plot at lunch for a quick mooch around. Got talking to a few old hands about specific crops for my site and was told to forget the likes of salads and sweetcorn because of the abundance of rabbits and badgers.

This kind of put a bit of a hole in my enthusiasm as i am keen to grow cut and come again salads and corn at the very least. Apart from spending some serious cash and fence the plot are there any other tips to prevent these creatures putting a dampner on all my hard work?

The field next door to my plot is full of rabbits, but they have never ventured into my field since I've had it. I put this down to the fact that I take my dog up with me and his first task is to go round the perimeter of the field leaving "Rabbits Keep Out" Pee-mails. Of course, I can allow my dog to do this because I am the only one on the field - it would probably be frowned on at a council run site. Could try investing in some Lion Pooh from a zoo (some garden centers sell it) - that is supposed to keep EVERYTHING away!

I have rabbits living in my garden and badgers who visit. Have fenced in part of it (was a chicken run). Grow my salad leaves in the GH. Am growing some small stuff in boxes on top of pallet benches. Its a jungle out there.......

pieces of eight, pieces of eight . Fencing is the answer. costs a bit but imho it's the only workable remedy

We get wabbits........they've never touched lettuce. We now have chicken wire (small holed stuff) round our plot ..seems to deter them ..
