So maybe later April, Aunty two_sheds? Same time as squashes and things

Have sat them outside in Dad's garden. They can play outside til tea time. Some of them have grown straight. Some of them are a big wiggly. All beautiful nonetheless.

They are hardy HH, but like me they hate sudden changes in temperature from warm(ish) to cold, wet and windy. See if you can stand them outside during the day for a couple of days, bringing them in at night, to acclimatise them to the great outdoors.Originally posted by horticultural_hobbit View PostWould have thought those broadies were hardy and therefore resilient. With it looking greyer than grey outside, dare I go plug in the potatoes.
Forecast is hit and miss. Would have thought those broadies were hardy and therefore resilient. Might have to wait a few days.

Well, I did some last year, and they survived, but they weren't as good as the ones sown later on. They need to be kept at least 10c, day and night. You'd need a thermometer to check the temp by the glass, because it gets super cold there, much colder than the general temp of the room.Originally posted by horticultural_hobbit View PostNot even inside, in paper pots, on the classroom window sills?
Cold will check their growth, stop them in their tracks, from which they never recover.

Most likely, RL. I have a very temperamental classroom, it gets cold in there very frequently. But yes, I take your point. If it is stupidly cold, might acclimatise over the next few days and harden off

Hobbit, if your beans have been in the classroom you need to harden them off gradually before plonking them on the lottie.Originally posted by horticultural_hobbit View Post
I am hoping to brave the elements tomorrow. Broadbeans brought home from work, to be transplanted tomorrow. Along with tatos.

Not even inside, in paper pots, on the classroom window sills? I wouldn't transplant them til end of April, early may, for fear of frost.

Have been rather looking forward to it. Will have to make some paper pots. So I can sow some DFB's.

I only have Lemon Drop chilli sown. Will that do? I have lots of sweet peppers if you like those. So many brassicas if you want some PLEASE take them. Er, you can have some other stuff too but I'll need to check. I can keep growing some toms on for you if you want to take my spares. I've sown three each of nine varieties and that's supposed to be a reduced amount again this year. What herbs don't you have?Originally posted by horticultural_hobbit View PostFeeling positive wi' the sunshine. Hoping to start filling the beds over the coming weeks. Had a few tantrums with seeds. Purely due to environmental conditions in my classroom. Had chilli and broadbean dramas. Leeks are still standing, but only just.
Going fairly paper potty! Are fantastic for beans. Going to have lots and lots of beans. Broadbeans, runner beans and peas. Give it a few weeks to sow. So will need to make more pots. Tomatos were leggy-due to class conditions-and now look very ropey potted on.
9 baby chillies for me to play with. I don't think I will sow anymore-might take Aunty VVG up on her offer. I can foster them for her
Keep eyeballing yellow DFB. Mama still wants her methi and saag.

Will be digging trenches, as it will soon be April and you know what happens then.
