Does anyone use debris netting?

I have heard that debris netting can be used both to keep insects off beds and as a windbreak fabric. Looking on Ebay it seems to be a lot cheaper than enviromesh and other types of netting/mesh - but is it any good? Or would it be false economy.

It looks quite dense and I wondered if it would let enough light through. It comes in different colours - I think there was green, blue, black, yellow and white. Presumably the colour would make a difference?

Wondering whether anyone else uses it to protect crops and/or as a windbreak.

If you have a rummage round the old threads (I think there's something up on the tool bar up there ^ at the top, that will help you) you'll find much mention of debris netting.

I got mine on eBay, it's been fabulous. Doesn't stop the light at all

I use it and it is great. It seems a lot more robust than enviromesh. However, be sure to plant your brassicas so that they don't touch the barrier as no matter what you use, the eggs can be laid onto the plants if they are in contact and you will get munchers!

I consider myself slapped too! Hint taken! (I usually search - honest - but can spend several happy hours trawling through the results only to be sidetracked and forget what I was looking for). Also, I was planning on setting off on a hunt round the GCs today so thought if I asked a quick question before going to bed there may be a helpful reply on here this morning before I set off - and there was - thank you shirlthegirl - and TS of course!

I have used it for the last two years and find it's great.

The only thing I'm not sure of is if it protects against pea moth or leek moth so i fleece those but maybe someone may know if it stops them.

No, it doesn't, unless you sew up the big holes. Then it will.

oh cheers for that, I actually do sew the pole holes up so I'm well chuffed that I still have over 30m still sat in my garage

I use it i have found that the areas that i net have less weeds than the others i think it must stop a lot of the seeds blowing about

I bought some recently and took one look at the holes and thought 'stuff that' when it came to sewing them up.

Instead I went to the local builders yard and bought some cheap white gaffer tape and taped it on both sides (it's supposed to be waterproof).

The only problem now is my nets look like they all have 'go faster' stripes on them.......

I use it on the fruit cage, as sauzee said there seems to be less weeds than other areas on the plot. Used it on the brassica bed last year but didn't do any sewing and ended up with loads of caterpillars! But it kept the pigeons off

it goes through a sewing machine ok on the largest stitch,but make sure you streatch it out as you go,otherwise the stitching will split and come undone,

i use it all the time its great stuff to use, i use it to cover most of my crops, stops those bloody birds

I can deal with small pests but cabbage white caterpillars which arrive in serious numbers that missing just 1% will leave the crop ruined

Last year a bloke on our site lost all his ball head cabbages as the cats bored to the centre and ate the cabbages from the inside out
